The national team of Sudan last night made a losing start in the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Coach Vahid Halilhodzic’s team fell 2-0 away to hosts Morocco in a Group I match played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Although the Falcons of Jediane started the match on a high, they failed to defend well allowing Naif Aguerd space to score only after 10 minutes.

The Sudan team played more of a defensive approach as Morocco continued to dictate the pace of the game.

In the second half another blunder by Sudan’s goalkeeper when he punched a ball near in the area only for defender Abuaagla Abdalla to deflect a shot in his won net.

Sudan had only three attempts at the Morocco goal. “We did not create many chances today and have to go back to the drawing board and prepare for the next home game,” said Sudan’s coach Halilhodzic after the match.

Sudan will next host Guinea Bissau, while Guinea play at home to Morocco. Guinea Bissau played to a 1-all draw against Guinea on Wednesday.

In another match played last night, Djibouti were given a rude welcome to Blide in a Group A match. The African champions humbled Djibouti 8-0 in a match played at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium.
