The Sudan national team held hosts Rwanda to a goalless draw in an international friendly match played at the Kigali Stadium on Thursday.

Coach Carlos Alós Ferrer’s team looked the better side creating several scoring opportunities, but the visitors stood firm.

In the second half Sudan thought they had got a penalty when Mohammed Salim was brought down by Thierry Manzi after 73 minutes, but the referee waved play on.

Substitutes Hakim Sahabo and Fred Muhozi brought more life for the Amavubi later in the second half, but the Sudan team defended well. The two teams will against face-off on Saturday in the second friendly match at the Kigali Stadium.

Sudan is using the friendly matches to prepare ahead of the TotalEnergies Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) to take place January 13th to February 4th in Algeria.

Ethiopia and Uganda are the other teams from the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) that qualified to play in the CHAN 2022 tournament.

Meanwhile, Burundi suffered a 4-0 defeat away to Ivory Coast in an international friendly match played on Wednesday at the Marrakech Stadium in Morocco. Jean-Philippe Krasso, Max-Alain Gradel, Ibrahim Sangare and Nicolas Pepe scored for the Ivory Coast team.
