South Sudan, Twiga Stars return for crucial ties in Port Elizabeth

The representatives from the CECAFA region South Sudan and Tanzania will return to action today in Group B matches at the on-going COSAFA Women’s Championship 2021.

Tanzania’s Twiga Stars will line-up against 2020 runners-up Botswana, while South Sudan take on Zimbabwe in crucial matches that have bearing as the tournament progresses.

The two matches will take place at the Madibaz Stadium in Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Port Elizabeth in South Africa.

After defeating Zimbabwe 3-0 in their opening match, any kind of victory for the Twiga Stars of Tanzania will see them book a place in the semi final. On their part South Sudan who lost 7-0 to Botswana in their opening match will also be all out seeking their first win in the tournament.

“Facing Botswana will not be an easy task and we must be at our best because they are a good side that beat us the last time,” said Tanzania’s coach Bakari Nyundo Shime,

The South Sudan captain Amy Lasu also told Cecafaonline that that they determined to push themselves to put up a better performance against Zimbabwe. “These matches against experienced teams in the COSAFA tournament are helping us get better,” added Lasu.

Shilene Booysen, the Bright Starlets coach said that these matches are not about winning or losing for them, but it’s a process in building the team. “Don’t expect too much because this is a young team and these matches are all about gaining experience for the future,” she added.

In matches played on Friday Malawi defeated Mozambique 3-2, while Angola held reigning champions South Africa to a goalless draw.
