The Bright Star of South Sudan will host Djibouti in the return leg of the preliminary round of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 qualifier on March 27th.

Victor Lawrence Lual, the General Secretary of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) told Cecafaonline.com that they have decided to play in Uganda because their national Stadium is still under renovation.

“The match will be played at the St. Marys Stadium. We believe we shall get fans to come and support the team since we have a good number of South Sudanese leaving in Uganda,” added Lual.

The first leg will be played on March 23rd in Cairo, Egypt. The Djibouti Football Federation also opted to host the first leg at the Al Salaam Stadium since they have no Stadium approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Eritrea and Somalia are the other teams from the CECAFA region that will play in the preliminary round of the AFCON 2023 qualifiers.

The six teams that qualify from the preliminary round will join the other highly ranked teams in the group stages of the qualifiers. Cote d’Ivoire will host the AFCON 2023.
