Somalia’s head coach Mohamed Amin optimistic ahead of U-17 AFCON

The head coach of Somalia’s junior team, Nur Mohamed Amin has promised that his team will put up a good show at the U-17 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.

Algeria will host the competition in three cities of Algiers, Constantine and Annaba to run April 29th to May 19th, 2023.

“I am confident that we have the players who can perform well at the high level. We want to show that winning the Zonal tournament was not by mistake,” said the coach on Thursday afternoon before the team left Mogadishu, Somalia.

Somalia who are making their first appearance in the U-17 AFCON are placed in Group A alongside hosts Algeria, Senegal and Congo Brazzaville. But coach Mohamed Amin says although they are facing experienced teams, they will treat every match like a final.

On Thursday during a luncheon before the team traveled to camp for a few days in Ethiopia, the Somali Football Federation (SFF) President, Ali Abdi Mohamed thanked the government and all stakeholders for the continuous support towards the team.

“We have made all the necessary preparations and we have talented boys. Five other players will join the team from Sweden, Norway and Canada and I am confident in the players,” added the Federation President.

The CECAFA Zone will be represented by Somalia and Somalia at the U-17 AFCON that will be held in the three cities of Algiers, Constantine and Annaba.

B: Nigeria, Zambia, Morocco, South Africa

C: Cameroon, Mali, South Sudan, Burkina Faso
