Somalia to face Tanzania in CHAN 2022 qualifiers

Somalia have been pitted against Tanzania in the first round of the TotalEnergies African Nations Cup (CHAN) 2022 qualifiers.

In the draw conducted today in Cairo, Egypt a total of 46 nations that  entered the tournament were drawn.

The for locally-based players which will feature 18 teams for the first time. All first round first leg matches will be played July 22-24th  with the return legs a week later.

Somalia who were knocked out in the preliminary round of the AFCON 2023 qualifiers will this time have a chance to have some action against Tanzania. The winner between the two sides over two legs will then move on to face Uganda in the last phase of the qualifiers.

In the other matches in the CECAFA Zone Ethiopia will face South Sudan, while Burundi battle Djibouti.

The Amavubi of Rwanda will wait in the second round to face the winner between Ethiopia and South Sudan, while Sudan take on the winner between Burundi and Djibouti.

The CHAN qualifiers are played on zonal basis and for the first time the tournament will have 18 teams instead of the previous 16.

Kenya and Eritrea did not enter the CHAN 2022 qualifiers.
