Six CECAFA teams for 2020 Women’s AFCON qualifiers

Six teams from the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) have entered the qualification stage of the 2020 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The 2019 CECAFA Senior Women’s Challenge Cup winners Kenya together with Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Burundi and Djibouti have all entered and will start in the first round.

According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the two legs of the first round matches will be played between April 6-14th.

In a clash of Zonal teams Tanzania will face Kenya, while Uganda will take on Burundi. Djibouti will take on Ethiopia in the other matches to be played in the CECAFA zone.

Twenty eight teams have been drawn with the best ranked South Africa, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Morocco, Mali, Ghana, Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire exempted from the first round.

The 2020 Africa Women Cup of Nations will be the 12th edition of the Africa Women Cup of Nations. The biennial international football championship is organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the women’s national teams of Africa.

The tournament hosts have yet to be confirmed after the Republic of Congo withdrew as hosts.
