Simba to face RS Berkane, Asec Mimosa in Confederation Cup Group stage

Tanzania Premier League side, Simba Sports Club have been placed in a tough group of the 2021/2022 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

In the draws conducted in Cairo, Egypt this afternoon Simba has been placed in Group D that also has RS Berkane (Morocco), Asec Mimosa (Cote d’Ivoire) and US Gendarmere Nationale (Niger)

Simba SC are the only team from the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) that qualified for the group stage of the competition.

After failing to make it to the group stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, Simba SC ejected Zambia’s Red Arrows FC 4-2 in the Confederation Cup play-off to book a place in the group stage.

AS Berkane, the 2019/2020 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup winners are also home of former Simba SC player and Zambian international Clatous Chama.

The group stage will be played from 13 February to 3 April 2022. A total of 16 teams will compete in the group stage to decide the eight places in the knockout stage.

Group A: Pyramids FC (Egypt), CS Sfaxien (Tunisia), Zanaco (Zambia), Ahly Tripoli (Libya)

Group B: winner JS Kabylie/Royal Leopard, Orlando Pirates (South Africa), JS Saoura (Algeria), Al Ittihad (Libya)

Group C: TP Mazembe (DR Congo), Cotton Sport (Cameroon), Al Masry (Egypt), AS Otoho (Congo)

Group D: RS Berkane (Morocco), Simba SC (Tanzania), Asec Mimosa (Cote d’Ivoire), US Gendarmere Nationale (Niger)
