Simba SC win Mapinduzi Cup 2022
NBC Tanzania Premier League giants Simba SC stopped Azam FC 1-0 to lift the Mapinduzi Cup 2022.
The two sides, unbeaten in the group stages came all out at the Amann Stadium, but failed to find goals in the first half.
It was Meddie Kagere who scored from the spot after 56 minutes to ensure Simba SC lifted their third Mapinduzi Cup.
To reach the final Simba SC defeated another Tanzania Premier League side Namungo FC 2-0, while Azam FC stopped the 2021 champions Young Africans SC 9-8 in penalty shoot-outs.
Simba SC head coach Pablo Franco said he was happy with the way his players responded against a tough Azam FC side.“This was a very tough final, but am happy the boys responded well and won,” added the coach.
This year the Mapinduzi Cup attracted 10 teams from Zanzibar and Tanzania Mainland.
The Mapinduzi Cup played to commemorate Zanzibar’s Revolution day is organized by the government of Zanzibar and the Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF).
