Simba SC pick slim win against South Africa’s Orlando Pirates

Tanzania’s Simba SC have defeated Orlando Pirates 1-0 in the first leg quarter final clash of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

Shomary Kapombe netted the lone goal after 68 minutes from the spot at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.

Ghanaian import Bernard Morrison who kept the Orlando Pirates defenders busy was brought down in the box by defender Happy Jele for the referee to ward a penalty. Shomari made no mistake beating the Buccaneers’ goalkeeper Richard Ofori from the spot.

Simba’s goalkeeper Aishi Manula also saved substitute Fortune Makaringe’s shot after 76 minutes as the South African side tried to push forward to try and find a goal.

Pablo Franco Martin, the Simba SC coach said although they won the first leg, there is still a lot of work that must be done. “We need to continue working hard and prepare for the return leg which will not be easy,” added the coach.

Later on Sunday night three more quarter finals matches were scheduled to take place. Al Masry was set to face RSB Berkane, while at all Libyan clash would see Al –Ittihad battle Al Ahly Tripoli, and TP Mazembe take on Pyramids.
