Simba SC, KCCA FC face tricky away CAF Champions League ties
Tanzania’s Simba Sports Club and KCCA FC (Uganda) will face tricky away tests when the first round of the 2019/2020 Total CAF Champions League kicks off this weekend.
Fresh from defeating visiting Zambian side Power Dynamos FC 3-1 on Tuesday in an International friendly that marked Simba Day, the Tanzania’s will play away to UD Songo of Mozambique in Maputo.
After reaching the group stage of the lucrative CAF Champions League last season, Simba SC are eager to get to the final of the tournament.
New Cecafa Kagame Cup champions KCCA FC from Uganda will also start their campaign away to African Stars FC of Namibia. “As much as we want to get a good away results, we shall not underrate any team when it’s playing at home,” said KCCA FC head coach Mike Hillary Mutebi.
Kenya’s Gor Mahia FC whose head coach Hassan Oktay officially resigned on Wednesday will also be battling away against new Burundi Premier League champions Aigle Noir CS in Bujumbura.
Another match between Cecafa teams will see Rwanda’s Rayon Sports taking on Hilal (Sudan) with the first leg taking place in Kigali. South Sudan’s Atlabara FC face the biggest test against away in Cairo against eight time African champions Al Ahly.
Tanzania’s second team in the Champions League Young Africans will host Township Rollers FC (Botswana), while Somalia’s Dekadaha FC play away to Zamalek FC in Cairo.
Zanzibar’s KMKM SC will play host to Desportivo de 1 Agosto of Angola. Djibouti and Eritrea are the only Cecafa members that did not enter teams in both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup.
