Tanzania’s Simba Sports Club have stormed the quarter final stage of the 2021/2022 TotalEnergies CAF Confederations Cup.

Simba SC humbled Niger’s USGM 4-0 in the last group match played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es salaam, Tanzania yesterday.

After a goalless first half, Sadio Kanoute put the Tanzanian giants ahead after 63 minutes. Chris Mugalu later picked a brace, before Saidu Hamisu also got his name on the score sheet.

The win saw Simba finish second in the group behind Morocco’s RS Berkane who beat ASEC Mimosas to seal their place.

“I am happy that the team worked hard to win this match to qualify for the next stage. We need to continue working hard ahead of the knock out stage,” said Simba’s head coach Pablo Franco.

Simba SC are now likely to face either Al Ahly Tripoli (Libya), Orlando Pirates (South Africa) or Democratic Republic of Congo TP Mazembe at the quarter final stage. The other teams that are through to the quarters include; Al Masry SC, Pyramids FC (Egypt) and Al Ittihad SC (Libya).
