Simba Queens reinforce squad ahead of CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers

Tanzania Women’s League reigning champions, Simba Queens are busy in the transfer market ahead of the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers for the CECAFA Zone.

Fresh from recapturing the League title, coach Juma Mgunda’s team are not taking anything for granted and have already signed six new players.

The CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers for the CECAFA Zone will take place August 17-31st in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Simba Queens who lifted the Zonal trophy in 2022 and went on to reach the semi final stage at the final tournament in Egypt are hungry to prove yet another point this time round.

Simba Queens, who completed the 2023/2024 season unbeaten in the League have already signed three players Saiki Atinuke, Precious Christopher and Kenyan International defender Wincate Kaari from rivals Yanga Princess WFC. The club has also added Emiliana Isaya, Amina Bilal and Josephine Julias from Baobab Queens from Dodoma.

Speaking about the regional qualifiers, the Simba Queens coach Mgunda has made it clear that they will have to prepare well because they will face champions from different countries. “At this level all teams are champions from their countries and must be respected. But we must make sure we prepare well so that we can win the trophy and again play at the major African tournament,” added the coach.

Simba Queens are placed in Group B alongside debutants Kawempe Muslim Ladies (Uganda), PVP Buyenzi (Burundi) and FAD Djibouti. Group A that have five teams include Commercial Bank of Ethiopia WFC, Yei Joint Stars (South Sudan), Warriors Queens WFC (Zanzibar), Rayon Sports WFC and Kenya Police Bullets.
