Semi final stage set for CECAFA Women’s Champions League

The semi final stage for the on-going CECAFA qualifier of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League is now set after three more teams booked their places today.

Tanzania’s Simba Queens FC, Lady Doves (Uganda) and Vihiga Queens (Kenya) joined Commercial Bank of Ethiopia in the knock out stage at the on-going qualifier in Nairobi, Kenya.

In the Group A games played today Lady Doves defeated PVP FC (Burundi) 3-0 in a match played at the Nyayo Stadium. Spencer Nakacwa, Norah Alupo and Fazila Ikwaput scored the goals.

Fred Musiime, the Lady Doves coach said he was happy his team won their second game and go into the semi final stage unbeaten and without conceding a goal.

The other Group A match played at the Kasarani Stadium saw Simba Queens take FAD FC to school with a 10-0 humbling. DR Congo international Flavine Mawete Musolo and Clement Opa Tukumbuke Sanga picked hat-tricks, while Aisha Nnunka and substitute Asha Djafari scored two goals each.

The big win was enough to send Simba Queens top of Group A. “I am happy that we managed to score many goals today. I hope will can continue scoring more as the tournament progresses,” said Simba Queens coach Ali Omar Hababuu Ali.

In a Group B match played at the Nyayo Stadium, Coach Heye Birhanu Giza’s Commercial Bank of Ethiopia run riot humbling  South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars 10-0. Skipper Geinore Loza netted six goals, while Medina Busser and Yesus Tseganesh scored a brace each.

Kenya’s Vihiga Queens were also in high scoring form when they saw off New Generations FC (Zanzibar) 8-0 in a Group B match played at the Kasarani Stadium.

Jentrix Shikangwa Milimu and Tereza Obunyu Engesha netted hat-tricks, while Mercyline Anyango and Maurine Achieng scored one a piece.

Simba Queens will now face Vihiga Queens in the first semi final clash, while Commercial Bank of Ethiopia take on Lady Doves with the two games to be played on September 6th at the Nyago Stadium.

The champion to be decided on September 9th will qualify to play at the Total Energies CAF Women’s Champions League final to be hosted by Egypt.
