Salaam FC Bor to represent South Sudan in CAF Champions League

Newly crowned South Sudan National League champions Salaam FC Bor will make their first appearance in the 2023/2024 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

The Bor based team were last week crowned champions for the first time, while El-Merriekh FC of Bentiu finished second.

“We shall have Salaam FC Bor represent South Sudan for the first time in the 2023/2024 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League. We shall also El Merriekh FC Juba, the Cup winners represent the country in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup,” Victor Lual, the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) General Secretary told Cecafaonline.

The South Sudan National League kicked off on May 10, 2023 with over 10 teams from the three regions of Upper Nile region, Equatorial region and Bahr El Ghazel region.

Besides the trophy, the champions Salaam FC Bor also picked a US$20,000 cash prize.

Augustino Maduok, President of the South Sudan Football Association (SFFA) thanked the two teams for working hard to win title in the 2022/2023 season.

“We are committed to develop football but we lack resources, we lack infrastructure, I am calling on the well-wishers to help fund football and build infrastructure, all that is needed is adequate resources,” added Maduok.
