Rwanda’s Irahamye nets hat-trick in Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup

Striker Eric Irahamye netted a hat-trick to help Rwanda beat South Sudan 3-0 in a Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup tie played at the Asmara National Stadium in Eritrea this evening.

The Nyamirama Secondary School student back in Rwanda who showed flashes of brilliance from the start of the game gave Rwanda the lead after 43 minutes with a solo effort.

South Sudan almost equalized but skipper Gai Kizito Aguer missed the target on 44 minutes.

In the second half the South Sudan team run out of steam as the coach Yves Rwasamanzi’s boys dominated play. Irahamye made it 2-0 after 73 minutes before he made sure he takes the ball home with another goal after 79 minutes.

South Sudan’s coach Simon Albino Ajak said his team tried especially in the first half. “We shall try to improve as the tournament progresses,” said Alak.

The Rwanda coach was excited about the result. “My boys played against a tough physical team and managed to win,” added Rwasamanzi.
