Rwanda Premier League champions APR Fc are the first team to qualify for the semi-final stage at the on-going CECAFA Dar Port Kagame Cup in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The army side picked a 1-1 draw against Uganda’s SC Villa in a match played at the KMC Stadium on Monday afternoon. The draw sends them to 7 points, while the Ugandan champions finished second with 4 points.

Olivier Dushimana gave APR the lead after 30 minutes, but SC Villa leveled matters through Najib Yiga two minutes into added time going into recess.

After the interval, the two teams tried to find more goals but failed to utilise the opportunities created. APR coach Darko Novic said he was happy with his team making it to the next stage. “We have won two matches and drawn once and that is not bad. But we need to work harder at the semi-final,” added Novic.

In the second Group C match Singida Black Stars FC defeated El Merriekh Bentiu 3-1 at the Azam Complex, Chamazi.

The Tanzania Premier League side that lost their first two matches took a 2-0 first half lead with goals from Marouf Tchakeh and Edmund John. After the interval Jack James pulled one back for the South Sudan side after 47 minutes.

But the Tanzania Premier League side continued pushing forward and scored their third goal through Ayou Lyanga.

Later to Group A matches will be played between Zanzibar Premier League champions JKU SC and Dekadaha FC (Somalia) at the KMC Stadium, while Coastal Union FC (Tanzania) face Hay Al Wadi FC at the Azam Complex, Chamazi.

The last group matches will be played on Tuesday, while the semi-finals take centre stage on July 16th.
