The Federation of Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) has withdrawn their teams that were slated to participate in the Zonal CAF Women’s Champions League qualifier and the U-23 Challenge Cup.

Scandinavia WFC were set to represent Rwanda in the zonal CAF Women’s Champions League qualifier slated to take place July 17th to August 1 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Rwanda team had been drawn in Group C alongside FAD (Djibouti) and Vihiga Queens (Kenya). The U-23 team that has been training for the last two weeks was also set to feature in the Challenge Cup to take place in Ethiopia from July 17th to August 1st.

In a communication dated July 9th, FERWAFA said because of the new COVID-19 preventive measures drawn by the government of Rwanda imposing lockdown on most activities including contact and team sports, as well as movement restrictions, they have been forced to withdraw the two teams form the competitions.

“The Council of East African Football Association has been notified of these unfortunate proceedings,” said the communication.
The zonal CAF Women’s Champions League qualifier will now remain with eight teams, while the U-23 Challenge Cup will have ten teams.
