Queen Cranes stop Ethiopia, Tanzania suffer defeat in African Games

The Queen Cranes of Uganda stopped Ethiopia 2-0 to improve their chances of making it to the semi-final stage at the on-going African Games in Ghana.

After starting with a 1-1 draw against Tanzania in a Group A tie, the Queen Cranes registered their first win on Tuesday in a match played at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Zainah Natende and Dorcus Lwalisa scored in the first half to ensure Uganda picked maximum points against an Ethiopian side that was hoping to bounce back after falling 1-0 to hosts Ghana I their opening match.

In the second Group A match played Tanzania suffered a 2-1 defeat to Ghana. Aisha Juma gave Tanzania the lead, but Tracy Twum leveled matters before the break. After recess Abdulai Mukarama scored Ghana’s second goal to send them straight to the semi-final stage.

The last Group A matches between Ethiopia and Tanzania, and Uganda battling Ghana will be played on March 15th, 2024. The best two teams from each group will automatically qualify for the semi-final stage.
