Namungo FC beat Yosso Boys to qualify for Mapinduzi Cup semis in Zanzibar

Namungo FC have qualified for the semi final stage at the on-going Mapinduzi Cup 2021 in Zanzibar.

The NBC Tanzania Premier League side picked their second straight win yesterday to top of Group A.

Namungo kick started the competition with a 2-1 victory against Meli 4 City FC on Sunday, before they humbled Yosso Boys 2-0 yesterday in a match played at the Amaan Stadium.

Sixtus Robert Sabilo and Reliants Lusajo Mwakasugule netted the second half goals to make new coach George Lwandamina’s team picks maximum points.

The second game saw Azam FC defeat Meli 4 City 1-0. Shaaban Idd Chilunda scored the only goal after 13 minutes.

Action continues today with Simba SC facing Selem View FC in a Group B match, before the defending champions Young Africans SC battle  Taifa Jang’ombe FC.

Imane Os Duwe, Chairman of the Mapinduzi Cup Organising Committee said that the top team from each of the groups will automatically qualify for the semi final, while the second best in Group A also makes it to the last four.

Organized by the government of Zanzibar and the Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF), the 2022 Mapinduzi Cup is slated to take place January 2-13th. The competition is a played to commemorate Zanzibar’s Revolution day which is marked annually on January 12th.

Group A: Azam FC, Namungo FC, Yosso Boys FC, Meli 4 City FC

Group B: Young Africans SC, Taifa Jang’ombe FC, KMKM SC

Group C: Simba SC, Selem View FC, Mlandege FC
