Mali defeat Rwanda’s Amavubi in FIFA World Cup qualifier

The Eagles of Mali defeated Rwanda 1-0 in the opening Group E match of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers 2022.

Adama Traore netted the lone goal after 19 minutes at the Grand Stade d’Agadir in Morocco on Wednesday evening. The match was played on a neutral ground since Stadiums in Mali where not approved since they don’t fulfill some requirements of the FIFA standards.

Mali dominated the match for longer spells, but the Amavubi goalkeeper Emery Mvuyekure was up to the task. He even saved Moussa Djenepo’s penalty kick after 18 minutes.

Rwanda tried to reorganize in the second half, but still failed to find the goal.

In the other games played on Wednesday as the FIFA World Cup qualifiers kicked off saw Central Africa Republic draw 1-1 with Cape Verde, while Senegal defeated Togo 2-0.

Guinea Bissau and Guinea also settled for a 1-1 draw, Libya stopped visiting Gabon 2-1 in Benghazi, while Egypt picked a narrow 1-0 win against Angola.
