Kiyovu stop table leaders APR FC in Rwanda Premier League
Kiyovu Sports Club picked a vital 2-1 win against table leaders APR FC in a 2021/2022 Rwanda Premier League match played on Saturday.
The win at the Kigali Stadium restored Kiyovu SC’s hopes of winning the League title after several years.
Abedi Bigirimana netted for Kiyovu SC from the penalty spot after 18 minutes. Ugandan International Emmanuel Arnold Okwi had been brought down in the box.
The army side tried to push forward to get the goals, but the Green Baggies defended well. Okwi got his name on the score sheet after 29 minutes for Kiyovu to take a 2-0 lead at half time.
After making some changes coach Adil Erradi Muhammed’s team dominated play in the second half before they pulled back a goal through Fitina Ombolenga after 58 minutes.
APR remain top of the log with 60 points and lead Kiyovu SC because of a better goal difference. The two teams have each played 27 matches with three matches each to complete the season.
“I am happy that we picked maximum points against a strong team. We need to remain focused ahead of the remaining matches,” said Kiyovu Sc coach Francis Haringingo.
