A goal in each half was enough to see Vihiga Queens FC defeat Morocco’s ASFAR FC 2-0 in a Group B match played this evening at the on-going TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League in Cairo, Egypt.

Violet Wanyonyi gave the Kenyan side the lead after only 8 minutes at the Al Salaam Stadium.

The Moroccan team tried to fight back to try and get goals, but failed to find the net. In the second half Wanyonyi turned provider and crossed for Jentrix Shikangwa to increase the lead after 51 minutes.

ASFAR star striker Sanaa Masoudy tried to shoot from far on many occassions, but still failed to find the goals. Massoudy scored a hat-trick in the 3-0 win against Rivers Angels FC (Nigeria) in their opening match.

“The team has worked hard and I am happy we got the win. We now have to work hard ahead of the last Group game against Rivers Angels on Friday,” said Vihiga Queens coach Charles Okere.

Vihiga Queens who lost the opening match 1-0 to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will now face River Angels FC in the last Group B match on Friday. The Nigerian side lost 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies this evening.

The best two teams in the two groups will automatically qualify for the semi finals.
