Kenya’s Vihiga Queens placed in tough CAF Women’s Champions League group

Vihiga Queens FC have been drawn in a tough group ahead of the inaugural 2021 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League.

The Kenyan side was yesterday drawn in Group B alongside Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies team, Asfar Club of Morocco and Nigeria’s Rivers Angels FC.

The tournament to attract eight teams will take place November 5-19th, 2021 in Egypt. Vihiga Queens will open their campaign with a game against Mamelodi Sundowns, before they face Asfar Club and conclude with the last group match against Rivers Angels.

Boniface Nyamunyamu, Vihiga Queens’ coach said that although the draw is tough, they will be up to the task. “They are good and tough sides in the group, but we shall also work on our mentality because we also showed in Cecafa qualifiers,” he added.

Vihiga Queens FC qualified to represent the Cecafa region after stopping Commercial Bank of Ethiopia in the final of the zonal qualifiers.

Group A: Wadi Degla (Egypt), AS Mande (Mali), Malabo Kings FC (Equatorial Guinea), Hasaacas Ladies (Ghana)

Group B: Vihiga Queens FC (Kenya), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Asfar Club (Morocco), Rivers United (Nigeria)
