Kenya’s Vihiga Queens FC will face New Generation FC (Zanzibar) in the opening Group B match of the CAF Women’s Champions League – CECAFA Zone on Sunday at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Kampala.

Coach Charles Okere Okoth who led Vihiga Queens to their inaugural CECAFA title in 2021 says the team is ready to try and have a good start.

” It is always good to get a good start in such tournaments because this will give us momentum, ” added Okere Okoth.

He made it clear that his team has trained well for the four weeks they have been camping in Nairobi. « We are more than ready to battle and my players are looking forward for another good show, » he added.

Defender Phoebe who rejoined from Hakkarigucuspor Women FC in Turkey is expected to make the starting team which will be led by skipper Merceline Wayodi and Ugandan international Winnie Babirye.

The 2021 Zonal champions Vihiga Queens didnot defend their title last year following Kenya’s ban by World Football governing body, FIFA.

The second Group B match will feature Tanzania Women’s Premier League champions JKT Queens and AS Kigali Women (Rwanda).
