Kenya’s national team captain Michael Olunga on Monday helped his team Al Duhail win the 2022/2023 the Qatar Stars League title.

The in-form Olunga netted four goals to help his team beat Al Shamal FC 5-2 in a deciding League match played at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium.

Al Duhail went into the match in need of a clear win to be sure of the title and avoid second-placed Al Arabi from catching up. Almoez Ali gave Herman Crespo’s team the lead after only 7 minutes.

Olunga then made it 2-0 after 20 minutes, before he netted a penalty after Almoez Ali had been brought down in the box after 29 minutes.

Before the break Olunga again made it 3-0, but Al Shamal pulled one back through a Matias Nani penalty immediatey after the break. But Olunga netted his fourth goal on the day after 52 minutes. Al Shamal netted a second goal in the dying minutes of the match.

It was all celebration for the Al Duhail fans and players after the match. “I am happy that we have lifted yet another trophy this season and I am also the top scorer,” said a happy Olunga.

The Kenyan International retained his top scorers Award when he finished with 22 goals. Last season he netted 24 goals. It was a treble win for Al Duhail who also lifted the Ooredoo Cup and Qatar Cup this season.
