The Kenya Starlets and Kilimanjaro Queens of Tanzania will face off in the final of the 2019 Cecafa Senior Women’s Challenge Cup in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Kenya humbled Burundi 5-0 in the first semi final clash at the Chamazi Stadium on Saturday before defending champions Tanzania struggled to see-off Uganda Crested Cranes 1-0 in the second game.

Jentrix Shikangwa netted a brace, while skipper Nixon Dorcus, Jereko Mwanalima and Corazone Aquino all got their names on the score sheet as they run rings around the Burundi team.

Burundi failed to counter Kenya’s passing game and physical presence. Kenya’s coach David Ouma said he was happy with the way his players attacked in numbers. “We played very well and I hope we can have even a better attitude in the final on Monday,” added Ouma.

In the second game watched by over 15,00 fans the defending champions failed to find the gaps with Uganda Crested Cranes marking all spaces.

Tanzania’s dangerous attack of skipper Asha Saada Rashid, Omary Mwanamisi and Athumani Abdallah Stumai were kept at bay by the Ugandan defenders.

Uganda also created some chances through Fazila Ikwaput and Juliet Nalukenge. After three minutes of added time were shown Tanzania netted their lone goal with Mwanamisi crossing beautifully for Asha Saada Rashid to score.

It was all jubilation after the final whistle. Tanzania’s coach Shime Bakari attributed the win to hard work and team work. “We met an organized Ugandan side, but my team did not give up,” added Bakari whose team has scored a record 23 goals getting to the final.

Uganda’s coach Faridah Bulega refused to speak at the press conference. The play-off for third place and final will take place on November 25th.
