Kenya’s Raising Stars and Sudan book scored late to qualify for the semi finals at the on-going regional Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup taking place in Uganda. The Kenya Raising Stars stopped Burundi 2-1 in one of the quarter final games played at the Fufa Technical center in Njeru, while Sudan beat South Sudan 1-0 in another game played at the Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu.

Burundi took the lead through a goal by skipper Hamimu Hakiziman after 45 minutes. He headed in a well taken corner kick by Karim Niyonkuru.

Burundi later paid the price of missing several scoring chances in the first half. After 62 minutes Patrick Otieno leveled matters before substitute Benson Oluoch Ochieng headed in the winning goal on 90 minutes.

“It was a very tough game, but we are happy to be in the final,” said Kenya’s skipper and goalkeeper Brian Bwire Okoth.

Kenya’s coach Stanley Okumbi admitted that they were lucky to qualify for the semi finals because Burundi should have won in the first half. “We played badly in the first half, but woke up later to win,” he added.

In Gulu South Sudan missed a penalty through skipper Deniel Samuel Solong after 60 minutes before Buay Lam Chan scored an own goal in the 89th minute to hand Sudan the win.

In the other quarter final game Eritrea took a 5th minute lead against Zanzibar in Njeru.  Tanzania was also meant to face Uganda Hippos later in another quarter final tie.
