Kenya, South Sudan teams in Jinja for Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup
Kenya’s U-20 team Raising Stars and South Sudan have arrived in Jinja ahead of the start of the Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup. Coach Stanley Okumbi, Kenya’s coach made it clear that his team has prepared well and they are determined to give it their best.
Kenya who arrived this morning by road from Nairobi will open their campaign with a game against Zanzibar on Sunday at the Fufa technical Centre, Njeru.
The South Sudan team also arrived last night by Road from Juba and are accommodated at Nile Hotel. The team is handled by coach Simon James Yor.
The tournament which will bring together 11 countries will run September 21st to October 5th in the towns of Njeru and Gulu.
Nicholas Musonye, the secretary general of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) said they expect a very competitive tournament. “We are happy with the facilities Uganda has provided for this tournament,” added Musonye.
The tournament sponsored by FIFA will kick off on September 21st with Sudan facing Djibouti, while hosts Uganda take on Eritrea in Group A matches at the Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu.
The Fufa technical center in Njeru will host Group B and C. Group B has Kenya, Ethiopia, Zanzibar and Tanzania, while Burundi, Somalia and South Sudan are in Group C.
Group A – Uganda, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti
Group B – Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zanzibar
Group C – Burundi, South Sudan, Somalia
