Kenya, Somalia jet-in for Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup
The junior teams from Kenya, Somalia and Sudan have arrived in the Eritrean capital Asmara ahead of the 2019 Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup.
Ignatius Osei-Fosu Kwame, coach of Somalia’s team told Cecafafootball.com on arrival at the Asmara International Airport on Tuesday that they are ready to prove a point at the tournament.
“We have prepared well and the boys are looking forward to the start of the Championship,” added the coach.
It will be the first time an Under-15 tournament is held in Africa. The hosts Eritrea are expected to kick-start the competition with a game against Burundi on August 16th, the same day Kenya battle Somalia.
Abraham Esayas, President of the Eritrea National Football Federation (ENFF) said they are ready to host a successful tournament.
“We welcome all teams to Eritrea and we are determined to have a great tournament which will help us promote the youngsters in the region,” said Esayas.
Teams from Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia and South Sudan are expected to arrive on Thursday.
The Council of East and central African Football Associations (Cecafa) has now decided the competition will have only two groups instead of three after the withdrawal of Djibouti.
