Kenya face Somalia in Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup kick-off
The inaugural Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup finally kicks off this afternoon with Kenya battling Somalia in the opening Group A match at the Asmara National Stadium in Eritrea.
“We are well prepared and the boys are rearing to go and make a good start,” Kenya’s coach Sagar Lakhani told Cecafafootball.com
The second game on card will see the hosts take on Burundi at the same Stadium. Ahmed Awad, one of Eritrean players said after training on Thursday that they are determined to make all Eritreans happy.
“We need to go all out with confident and also hope that we have a lot of home support,” said Awad. The coach Mekonen Zewde said the opening match of such a tournament is always very important because it sets the momentum.
Eritrea who last hosted a Cecafa tournament in 2010 have promised a successful competition. Esayas Abraham, the Eritrea National Football Federation (ENFF) said they are determined to host a good tournament and make sure the youngsters showcase their talents in the competition.
On Saturday action will shift to Group B with Uganda taking on Ethiopia and Rwanda facing South Sudan. The competition is supported by FIFA through the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
