Kenya beat Somalia 3-1 in Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup opener
Kenya has kick started the Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup campaign with a convincing 3-1 win over Somalia in the first game played at the Asmara National Stadium in Eritrea on Friday.
The Kenyan team took a 2-0 half time lead with goals from Andreas Odhiambo and skipper James Murage Gachango.
Somalia’s Mohamed Omar Daud kept the Kenyan defenders on their toes but lacked enough support.
After the interval Somalia’s team returned charged and played a better game. Hassan Mohamed Nabifitah had his hard short parried away for a corner after 60 minutes by Kenyan goalkeeper Omar Abdinasir.
Substitute Andrew Waswa Waliaulah made it 3-0 for Kenya after 63 minutes with a hard low short. But the Somalia side pushed players upfront and got a penalty at the stroke of full time. Mohamed Omar Daud netted the penalty.
Sagar Lakhani, the Kenya coach said it was good to start with a win. “Yes we missed several scoring chances, but I am happy with the win,” added the coach.
Hosts Eritrea are expected to face Burundi in the second Group A match today.
