Kampala Queens target good start against Yei Joint Stars

The head coach of Kampala Queens FC has said they are determined to make a winning start in the CAF Women’s Champions League 2023 qualifiers – CECAFA Zone.

Ethiopia Women’s Premier League champions Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC will battle Buja Queens (Burundi) in the opening Group A match in Njeru, while Kampala Queens will face South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars FC in the second match.

Charles Ssenyange, the Kampala Queens coach told Cecafaonline.com that although he is aware that the South Sudan team is a much improved side, he is confident his players have what it takes to get the job done.

” The players are rearing to go because it is their first time to play in this competition and they are playing at home. We need to make sure we take our chances and play as a team, ” said Ssenyange.

Kampala Queens who have bee busy in the transfer market which saw them also sign the hard working Rwandan international Florence Imanizabayo will hope that the home support can also play a significant role to motivate them in the qualifiers.

On Sunday Kenya’s Vihiga Queens will take on New Generations FC (Zanzibar) in the opening Group B match at the Omondi Stadium, Lugogo. The second match will see JKT Queens (Tanzania) battle AS Kigali Women (Rwanda).

« Apart form FAD FC from Djibouti who arrive on Saturday, all the others are ready for the Championship. We anticipate a very competitive Championship because all teams have beefed their squads, ” says CECAFA Competitions Director, Yusuf Mossi.
