Fresh from winning the CECAFA Kagame Cup, Uganda’s Express FC have turned their focus to the first preliminary round of the 2021/2021 CAF TotalEnergies Champions League.

The team that stopped Malawi’s Nyasa Big Bullets FC 1-0 in the regional final played last Saturday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania returned to a heroes welcome on Monday afternoon.

Head coach Wasswa Bbosa handed over the trophy to Hamson Obua, the State Minister of Sports and Club Chairman Kiryowa Kiwanuka, who is also Uganda’s Attorney General.

Bbosa told Cecafaonline that they have now shifted focus to the Champions League where they will host Sudan’s Al Merriekh in the first leg. “The five matches we played in the Kagame Cup have been a big boost in our preparations ahead of the Champions League,” said Bbosa.

The coach said there is no time for them to relax because the Champions League kick-off in a few weeks. “It is good the regional tournament has helped us assess several technical things, but we still need to prepare well,” added Bbosa.

The other teams in the CECAFA region that will battle in the first preliminary round of the CAF TotalEnergies Champions League include; Tusker FC (Kenya), AS Arta Solar7 (Djibouti), Les Messager De Ngozi (Burundi), KMKM SC (Zanzibar), Al Hilal (Sudan), Fasil Kenema SC (Ethiopia), Mogadishu City Club (Somalia), APR FC (Rwanda).

Tanzania’s Simba SC who reached the quarter final of the same competition last season are among the teams exempted from the first round.
