JKT Queens fight back to stop AS Kigali Women FC

Tanzania’s JKT Queens FC battled from a goal down to stop AS Kigali Women 2-1 in a Group B match played on Sunday at the on-going CAF Women’s Champions League qualifier – CECAFA Zone.

Diane Nyirandagijimana gave the Rwanda Women’s Premier League champions the lead after only 3 minutes in a match played at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Kampala.

The two teams continued to create scoring oppourtunities, but it was JKT Queens who leveled matters through Abdallah Stumai a minute into added time going into the break.

After the interval AS Kigali tried to press deep again as they pushed to try and regain their lead. It was JKT Queens who were more clinical when Donisia Daniel Minja scored after 70 minutes.

Ester Fredy Chamburuma, the JKT Queens head coach said although they won the match, there is still a lot of work to be done. ” We need to work hard to correct certain mistake ahead of our next matches, ” added Chamburuma.

In an earlier match 2021 Zonal champions Vihiga Queens from Kenya also recorded a 3-1 victory against New Generation FC from Zanzibar.

Amina Hemed gave New Generation FC the lead after 20 minutes. Hemed capitalised on a mistake by Vihiga Queens goalkeeper Ruth Aturo to slot the ball in the net. But Ugandan international Winnie Babirye leveled matters for Vihiga Queens after 37 minutes.

In the second half Ruth Khasokha scored Vihiga Queens’ second goal, and Martha Amunyolet Emedot added the third from the sport to ensure the kenyan giants walked away with maximum points.

Charles Okere Okoth, the Vihiga Queens coach thanked his players for fighting back from a goal down to win the match. ” We still have alot of work to do in the remaining group matches, ” added Okoth.

Action in Group B will return on Wednesday with JKT Queens taking on New Generation FC, while AS Kigali Women battle Vihiga Queens.
