Hosts Uzbekistan defeated Uganda Cranes 4-2 in the final of the Navruz Cup played yesterday at the Nanbahor Stadium in Namangan.

AS Roma striker Eldor Shomurodov netted a hat-trick for the home side, while Jalolidin Masharipo also got his name on the score sheet.

Farouk Miya and skipper Emmanuel Okwi scored two second half goals for the Uganda Cranes.

Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s team saw off Tajikistan in the first semi final match 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time. The hosts defeated Kyrgyzstan 3-1 in the other semi final match.

Sredojevic said the two matches his team played have helped them assess several aspects. “This has been a good warm up ahead of the qualifiers for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations,” said Uganda’s head coach.
