Uganda Rhinos have stormed the semi final stage at the on-going CECAFA U-15 Boys Championship.

Coach Hamuza Lutalo’s side stopped South Sudan 3-0 in a Group A match played at the FUFA technical centre in the Eastern town of Njeru on Tuesday.

The first half ended goalless after the two teams played a well balanced game.

After recess the Uganda Rhinos changed their tactical approach and went a goal up after 56 minutes through Frank Ssekanjako as the South Sudan defenders failed to close the gaps.

Enock Bagenda made it 2-0 after 59 minutes and Abdulshakur Babi wrapped it up with the third goal four minutes to full time.

Hamuza Lutalo, the Uganda Rhinos coach said he was happy that his team won a second match without conceding. ” We need to keep focused and also win the last Group match against Ethiopia, ” added the coach whose team humbled Djibouti 15-0 in the opening match last Saturday.

The South Sudan coach Nasir Yousif Hassen Bakit blamed the defeat on some errors in defending. ” We played well in the first half, but failed to defend well in the second half, ” added the coach.

In the earlier Group A match Ethiopia defeated Djibouti 8-1 with Mesfin Basa netting a brace. The other goals were scored by Yihun Gebremariam, Muetesimbillah Waleliga, Oda Kedir, Natnael Lerango, Alex Daro and Abinet Data. Djibouti’s lone goal and their first in the competition was netted by Abdi Sadik Ali.

Action continues in Group B today with Somalia taking on table leaders Zanzibar, and Rwanda face Tanzania in the second match.
