The Walias of Ethiopia defeated visiting Rwanda team 1-0 in an international friendly match played at the Adama Science and Technology University Stadium on Sunday.

The two teams had earlier created several scoring opportunities, but failed to find the goals.

After a goalless first half, the hosts scored through Kenean Markneh in the 84th minute.

The two teams used the international friendly to prepare ahead of the upcoming 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Wubetu Abate, the Ethiopian coach said he was happy that his team had the chance to play an international friendly match before traveling to Morocco for their two matches in the AFCON qualifiers. “This has been a good test for the players,” added the coach.

Ethiopia who top Group D will face Guinea on March 24th in a match to be played in Casablanca, while they will face the same side three days later in another match to be played in Morocco.

The Rwanda team who are placed third in Group L will play away to bottom placed Benin before hosting the same side on March 27th at the Huye Stadium in Butare.
