Hosts Eritrea to open against Burundi in Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup

The hosts Eritrea will kick start their campaign against Burundi on August 16th in the 2019 Cecafa U-15 Boys Challenge Cup.

In the draws released on Tuesday by the secretary general of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), Nicholas Musonye, Somalia will also battle Kenya on the opening day.

The regional tournament which will for the first time feature U-15s will run August 16th to September 1st in Asmara, Eritrea.

“We expect a very competitive tournament and all the 11 members will take part,” said Musonye.

The draw released on Tuesday has pitted hosts Eritrea against Kenya, Burundi and Somalia in Group A, while Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia and South Sudan face off in Group B. Group C will have Tanzania, Sudan and Djibouti.

Accoring to the tournament rules the best three teams from Group A and B qualify for the quarter finals, while the best two from Group C also make it to the last eight.

Cecafa will also use the tournament to prepare the youngsters ahead of the qualifiers for the U-17 AFCON 2021 to take place in Morocco.
