Kenya Premier League side Gor Mahia FC have advanced to the next round (pre-group/play-off) of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

Gor Mahia made it to the next round without kicking a ball after Sudan side Al Ahly Merowe failed to travel to Nairobi for the return leg that was meant to be played today.

Gor Mahia who had won the first leg 3-1 in a match played in Egypt few days ago will now wait for a team that drops from the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League to play in the next round.

On Sunday Rwanda’s AS Kigali also failed to make it to the next stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup after losing 2-1 away to DC Motema Pembe. The Democratic Republic of Congo team qualified for the next round on a 4-2 goal aggregate.

On Saturday two teams from the CECAFA region Azam FC (Tanzania) and URA FC (Uganda) were eliminated by Egyptian teams. Azam FC lost 1-0 away to Pyramids, while the Ugandan Premier League side also fell by the same margin 1-0 Al Masry.

Tanzania’s Biashara United also exited the competition after failing to travel to Libya for the return leg against Al Ahly Tripoli. Biashara United had defeated the Libyan side 2-0 in the first leg match played in Dar es Salaam.

Gor Mahia FC are now the only team from the CECAFA region to make it to the next stage. The Kenyan side will be joined in the next stage (play-off) by Rwanda’s APR FC, Tusker FC (Kenya) and Simba SC (Tanzania) who fell out in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
