Tanzania’s head coach Kim Poulsen has praised his team for putting up a winning performance against DR Congo at the on-going CECAFA U-23 Challenge Cup.

Reliant Llusajo Mwakasagule netted the lone goal after 66 minutes in the Pool A match played on Wednesday at the Bahir Dar Stadium, Ethiopia.

“It was very difficult for us because my team arrived on Wednesday morning and did not train enough for this tournament. But I am glad we managed to get the vital win in the opening match against a strong side,” said Poulsen.

He also said the high altitude in Bahir Dar affected his players because some of players had difficulty in breathing. “I am glad we have managed to get the maximum points against a strong and physical team. We now have to get back and plan for the next game against Uganda,” added Poulsen.

Team captain Ntambwe Kalonji Magloire said that stopping DR Congo was a big boost for them. “We did not train for many days and we faced a team that has arrived in Ethiopia early enough and was much better prepared. But we need to remain focused through out the tournament,” added Magloire.

The win took Tanzania top of Group A after gust side DR Congo settled for a goalless draw against Uganda in the opening Pool A match.
