Fountain Gate Dodoma storm CAF African Schools Championship final

CECAFA representatives Fountain Gate Dodoma Secondary School have qualified for final in the Girls category at the on-going 2022/2023 CAF African Schools Football Championship in South Africa.

The Dodoma based Fountain Gate team stopped Congo’s CSG De Mfilou 4-0 in the first semi-final played at the Sugar Ray Zulu Stadium in Durban on Saturday morning.

In-form Winfrida Hubert netted a hat-trick in the first 25 minutes for the Tanzanian School team, and Mary Siyame made it 4-0 after 36 minutes. They will now face Morocco’s Ecole Omar IBN Khatab in the final later today. The Morocco team beat Scan Aid form The Gambia 1-0 in the second semi-final match.

In the group stage Fountain Gate Dodoma School stopped South Africa’s Edendale Technical School 7-1, and followed it up with a 2-0 victory against Scan Aid from The Gambia.

Later this afternoon the finals of the boys and Girls category will take place.

The teams are vying to be crowned champions of Africa, but also for the USD 300,000 first prize in each competition. The Motsepe Foundation donated USD 10-million to boost the competition in its inaugural year.
