FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers: Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania pick huge wins

Teams from the CECAFA Zone Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania have picked huge wins in the first leg second round qualifiers of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Uganda playing away from home thrashed Mozambique 6-0 in a match played at the Campoda ABB-Matola Stadium on Saturday.

Agnes Nabukenya and Hadijah Nandago scored hat-tricks, while Margret Kunihira and Eva Naggayi also got their names on the score sheet to give The Queen Cranes of Uganda a perfect start in the qualifiers which also serve as qualifiers for the CAF Women’s U-20 tournament.

Ethiopia also managed to pick a 1-1 draw away to Equatorial Guinea. Emush Daniel gave the visitors the lead, but Julia Raquel Bopopo leveled matters for the hosts after 53 minutes.

On Sunday Valerie Nekesa netted a hat-trick to help hosts Kenya defeat Angola 6-1 in a match played at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.

Charity Midewa also netted a brace for the Rising Starlets of Kenya, while Faith Naliaka Mushilingani also got her name on the score sheet for the hosts. Ivonne Julio Candido scored the lone goal for Angola.

Tanzania were also in good scoring form humbling Djibouti 5-0 in a match played at the Azam Complex. Jamila Rajabu scored a brace, while Noela Luhala, Winifrida Gerald and Yasinta Joseph added more goals. Burundi also held South Africa to a goalless draw in a match played in Pretoria.

The return legs will be played between October 13-15, while the third round matches will take place next month.
