FIFA lifts ban on Football Kenya Federation
The Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) has today lifted the ban on Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
Fatma Samoura, the FIFA Secretary General communicated the lifting of the suspension which clears Kenya to participate in all competitions.
Kenya was suspended in February this year for what FIFA called government interference.
In a letter sent to the FKF Chief Executive Officre, Barry Otieno, the FIFA Secretary General said the Bureau of the Council on November 25, 2022 to lift the suspension of the FKF with immediate effect. “ Upon the lifting of the suspension, a FIFA-CAF mission will be deployed to Nairobi in order to define the next steps for the FKF and to also meet with the newly appointed Cabinet Secretary for Sports. Further details will be communicated accordingly and in due course,” added the communication.
Auka Gecheo, the Executive Director of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) welcomed the lifting of the ban. “Of course we are happy to have all out members back. We welcome the lifting of the sanction and look forward to see Kenya compete in all competitions in CECAFA region and other tournaments,” added Gecheo.
The 12 CECAFA members include; Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Djibouti, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Zanzibar and Kenya.
