FA leaders in Cecafa region should avoid age cheating – Musonye
The Secretary General of the Council of East and Central Football Associations (Cecafa), Nicholas Musonye has advised football leaders in the region to allow players feature in tournaments of their true age categories.
Musonye made it clear that although they have not confirmed the players ages using the MRI testing system at the on-going Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup in Eritrea, some players visibly look older.
“When you play older players in a tournament meant for younger ones, then you are not for development for football in your country. Our leaders in the Cecafa region should avoid age cheating if they are doing so,” said Musonye.
He made it clear that some teams at the on-going tournament had complained that certain teams had visibly older players. “This gets back to the Federation leaders to be honest and select players for the right age categories,” added Musonye.
Speaking about the first ever U-15 Challenge Cup, Musonye said he is delighted this tournament has finally started because if Federations are sincere in picking rightful players then they will benefit from this event.
The tournament financed by FIFA enters the semi final stage on Wednesday with Kenya facing Rwanda, while Uganda take on Burundi. The final will be played on August 30th.
