Uganda’s League Champions Express FC make winning start in CECAFA Kagame Cup
Uganda Premier League side, Express FC have made a winning start in the second game at the on-going CECAFA Kagame Cup 2021 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The 10-man Express FC side also know as the Red Eagles stopped South Sudan’s Atlabara FC 1-0 in a Group A match played at the Azam Complex, Chamazi.
Striker Eric Kambale netted an early 4th minute penalty after he had been fouled in the box by Peter Sunday Makoy.
The two teams continued to create scoring chances, but looked blunt in the final third. Atlabara’s Terra Ernandez and John Justin created some chances infront of the Express FC goal mouth, but failed to score.
After 65 minutes Express Fc had Abel Michael Eturude sent off for a bad foul Terra Ernandez. The defender tried to kick away a ball, but instead kicked the face of the striker.
The South Sudan team tried to push forward to get a goal as they out numbered the Express FC players, but still failed to beat goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa.
Express coach Wasswa Bbosa said although they won the match, he was not happy with the general performance of his players. “We need to imrove because my players are very slow on the pitch,” said Bbosa.
Atit Monydeng, the Atlabara coach said the early goal conceded disorganized his team. “we hope to improve in our next match after more of my players also arrive from Juba,” added the coach.
Later today Burundi’s Le Messager Ngozi will face KMKM FC in a Group B match, while defending champions KCCA FC (Uganda) take on Azam FC (Tanzania).
