Ethiopia’s referee Bamlak shortlisted for FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar

Ethiopia’s experienced referee Bamlak Tessema Weyesa is among the eight African referees shortlisted to officiate at the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Qatar will host the FIFA World Cup from November 21st to December 18th, 2022.

Bamlak who also officiated at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia as a fourth official will undergo training with the other selected referees from around the world in Qatar ahead of the World Cup.

The Ethiopian who also recently put up a good performance officiating at the 2020 AFCON held in Cameroon has been selected alongside; Mustapha Ghorbal (Algeria), Redouane Jiyed (Morocco), Papa Bakary Gassama (Gambia), Victor Gomez (South Africa), Janny Sikazwe (Zambia), Maguette N’diaye (Senegal) and Jean Jacques Ndala (DR Congo)

Bamlak who who will be the only referee from the CECAFA region at the FIFA World Cup 2022 has also officiated at the FIFA U-17 World Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup among others.
