Ethiopia’s Fasil Kanema stop Bumamuru

Ethiopia’s Fasil Kanema FC have defeated Bumamuru FC in the first leg of the preliminary round of the 2021/2022 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

The home side stopped the Burundi Premier League side 3-0 in a match played at the Bahir Dar Stadium.

After a tight first 25 minutes with several missed chances by the two teams, the home side took the lead after 33 minutes. Alembirhan Yigzaw netted after a defensive mistake by Bumamuru.

The Burundi team returned determined in the second half, but failed to break through to score goals. Fikadu Alem made it 2-0 for the home side after 63 minutes, and Solomon Tafesse scored the third goal with eight minutes to full time.

This weekend other teams from the CECAFA region that will be in action in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup include Uganda’s Bidco FC who will host Future FC (Egypt). Hilal Alsahil (Sudan) will host Geita Gold FC (Tanzania), while Asas FC (Djibouti) take on Rwanda’s AS Kigali.

South Sudan’s Al Hilal FC will host Kipanga FC (Zanzibar) in a match will be played in Dar es Salaam, while Sudan’s Al Ahki Khartoum play away to Libya’s Al Akhder.
