Ethiopia pick first win in CECAFA U-18 Women’s Championship

Ethiopia have registered their first win at the on-going CECAFA U-18 Women’s Championship in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

After losing their first two matches, the Ethiopian team came all out to defeat Burundi 2-0 in a match played at the Azam Complex, Chamazi on Sunday.

Emush Daniel Dandamo gave the Ethiopian team the lead after 41 minutes. She later picked her brace in the 65th minutes. Burundi’s Neema Nzohabonayo had her penalty saved after 51 minutes.

Endalkachew Chaka, the Ethiopian coach said it was good to get their first win after losing the first two matches. ” The team played well and should have scored more goals. But playing is this tournament is helping us develop the players better, ” added the coach.

In the second match hosts Tanzania stopped Zanzibar 1-0.

Aisha Juma Mnunka, took her tally to three goals in the tournament when she beat Zanzibar’s goalkeeper Aisha Said at close range after 28 minutes. The Zanzibari goalkeeper failed to punch away a freekick, and Mnunka was quick to place the ball in the net.

The Tanzanian side with the likes of Mnunka, Anna James and Rahma Nassor all pushing forward in attack failed to score more goals as the Zanzibari team defended in numbers.

Coach Bakari Nyundo Shime, the Tanzania coach said he is happy they have won all their three matches and netted six goals without conceding. ” We now prepare to face Uganda in our last match on Friday, ” added Shime.

Action continues on Tuesday with Ethiopia battling Zanzibar, while Uganda take on Burundi. Tanzania lead the table with nine points, while Uganda are second with 6 points, and Ethiopia in third place.
