Ethiopia will hope to register their second win in Group G of the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifier when they host South Africa this afternoon.

The match will take place at the Bahir Dar Stadium.

In September the Walia Ibex needed a late penalty converted by  Aschalew Tamene to beat Zimbabwe 1-0.

Wubetu Abate, the Ethiopian coach has said they must take their chances and be sharp at goal. “Against Zimbabwe we missed several chances and only scored late. We must be sharp from the start to the end because we need another win,” said Abate.

Ethiopia will look to the attack of Amanuel Gebremichael, Abubeker Ahmed and Getaneh Kebede to get the goals in Bahir Dar.

The Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos also made it clear they are capable of winning the back to back matches against Ethiopia. “When we play our game (against Ethiopia), and we play as we did against Ghana, with the same confidence and the same belief, then I think it is possible to win in Ethiopia,” said Broos.

South Africa lead Group G with 4 points, while Ghana and Ethiopia have 3 points each. Zimbabwe who will face Ghana are bottom of the log with 1 point.

Meanwhile, Djibouti last night lost their third FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifier to Burkina Faso.

Abdoul Tapsoba netted a brace, before Issa Kabore and Mohamed Konate also got themselves on the score sheet in the match played in Morocco.
